People love Boerne for the small town atmosphere, Hill Country views, and quaint downtown. However, Boerne also has far more to offer visitors and residents alike than many realize! Boerne is known for rich heritage, great location, and an active community, all of which are showcased by local businesses. No need to research, five of the best fun events to attend and businesses to visit in Boerne this week are described below. Hopefully this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country weekend a little easier!
1. Explore the 4th Annual Art Waddle

If you’ve been a Boerne-ite for any length of time, you’re more than familiar with River Road’s famous crew of ducks and their signature waddle. This lovable town mascot has grown into a symbol of Boerne pride and heritage. Accordingly, Boerne’s favorite springtime art event has been christened “The Art Waddle”...now in its fourth year! The Art Waddle is a community-wide outdoor art festival featuring everything from paintings to illustrations to jewelry to sculpture and far more. Located in Boerne’s “funkiest neighborhood” The Flats, the Art Waddle will be an informal celebration of Boerne’s established and emerging artists.
The Flats has been described as a “reinvigorated zone where modest older residences mingle with new and imaginative architecture. It's a place for the creative side of Boerne.” The beauty of the Cibolo area and its culture has truly turned more and more artists towards inspiration in so many ways! And, as you explore the art and waddle your way through the neighborhood, don’t forget that all proceeds go towards a great cause. Profits will go towards scholarships to the Cibolo Nature Center and Farm's Summer Art Camp.
When: Saturday, 10:00am to 4:00pm
Where: Begins at 204 W. San Antonio
2. Peruse the classic Boerne Market Days
Whether you’ve never experienced Market Days in Boerne or you’re a seasoned pro, this monthly experience is a community favorite. The Main Plaza of Boerne has been the epicenter of business in the area since 1850. Now, on the second weekend of every month, Main Plaza transforms into a Texas Hill Country gem: a market that fuses art with business and music. The market features hundreds of booths selling artisan made goods, from jewelry to leather to furniture to clothing. Even if you aren’t interested in buying any goods, Market Days is a perfect way to immerse yourself in the artistic Hill Country culture, all while enjoying live music and delicious food. Vendors travel to this event from all over the state of Texas, so you won’t be disappointed by the variety! There’s something new for everyone every month.
When: Saturday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Where: Main Plaza, 100 North Main

You already loved the Hill Country Mile, but this weekend is giving you an extra chance to celebrate all the small town glory that is Boerne’s Main Street (or “Haupstrasse” in German). The “More Than Just a Mile” celebration will signify the debut of a revitalized downtown! Over 30 retailers and eateries will celebrate with specials, deals, and events (like “bring your dog to shop day”) and will stay open until at least 9:00 p.m. The whole weekend is a celebration of all things Boerne! Explore Art al Fresco, take in the old world architecture, and revel in this special recognition of such a special place.
When: Thursday (All day) to Sunday (All day)
Where: Downtown Boerne
4. Enjoy live music at the Library

It was Stephen King who so aptly stated, “Books are a uniquely portable magic.” It follows, then that libraries are a special place: an epicenter of culture, imagination, and story. How appropriate that this Friday’s Silk Sojourn concert is at the library! Described as “enchanting” and “intensely soulful”, Syrian clarinetist and composer Kinan Azmeh (also a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble) will perform with composer-performer Dinuk Wijeratne and Grammy Award winning percussionist Shane Shanahan. Free and open to the public, this concert will usher in a truly magical evening.
When: Friday, May 13, 2016 - 6:30pm
Where: Patrick Heath Public Library Amphitheater, 451 N Main St
5. Make friends with the ducks at River Road Park

It’s May in Texas, and the beauty of the Hill Country is fully upon us! For Boerne, this means that the ducks of River Road Park are prime and ready to play with you and your family...and by “prime and ready to play”, we mean “hungry and ready to be fed.” Feeding the ducks on River Road Park is one of the town’s favorite pastimes! So get outside to River Road Park and enjoy the local wildlife and all the amenities the park has to offer. After its “facelift” in 2013, this park features all new picnic units, beautiful landscaping, new fishing piers, and more. The waterfront is a gorgeous setting for a picnic, walk, or excursion to feed the ducks.
When: Park is open sunup to sundown
Where: 415 River Road
