5 Things To Do in Boerne This Weekend (March 11-13)

People love Boerne for the small town atmosphere, Hill Country views, and quaint downtown. However, Boerne also has far more to offer visitors and residents alike than many realize! Boerne is known for rich heritage, great location, and an active community, all of which are showcased by local businesses. No need to research, five of the best fun events to attend and businesses to visit in Boerne this week are described below. Hopefully this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country weekend a little easier!

1. Go Old School at Soda Pops Patio Grill & Bar

Are you feeling nostalgic for an earlier time? When you walk through the doors of Soda Pops Patio Grill & Bar, you might think you’ve taken a much-needed trip back in time! This classic restaurant is reminiscent of a retro 50’s diner combined with a cartoon-worthy ice cream parlor and soda shop! Appropriately located in Boerne's charming Historic District, Soda Pops offers high-quality food along with its novelty atmosphere. In other words, they won’t serve you frozen fast-food burgers... the kitchen’s specialty is fresh, delicious angus beef burgers (we recommend the Signature Magnum Burger).

The attached Ice Cream Parlor + Soda Shop offers homemade ice cream sandwiches, banana splits, hand-dipped cones, milkshakes, retro sodas, coffee & tea, and way more. The ice cream parlor’s atmosphere includes tabletop bowling, checkers, coloring books, barrel-of-monkey, and lots of old school fun...a great place for both kids and adults who want a touch of whimsy!

When: Friday & Saturday: 11:00am-9:00pm, Sunday: 11:00am - 8:00pm

Where: 103 N Main St

2. Prep for Pi Day with Tootie Pie Co!

We know you’ve probably been counting down the days all year...but Monday (3/14) is Pi Day! On this special date, math nerds and dessert fanatics can agree on one thing: March 14th is the day to eat pie. But why limit your pie festivities to Monday? Grab a local dish and start pre-gaming! We recommend stopping by Tootie Pie Co, a local bakery that specializes in delicious pies.

Tootie Pie Co, which handcrafts thousands of pies each year, was founded by Ruby Lorraine “Tootie” Feagan. Though the Boerne location only opened in 2005, the Tootie legacy began long before. Tootie began baking with her now-famous recipes in 1985 and immediately accrued a fan base. After winning multiple awards for her pies (including Medina Apple Festival for her original “Tootie Pie”), she decided to open her own bakery to offer treats to the public. Tootie’s delicious pies include signature apple, cherry, buttermilk, pumpkin and pecan. Stop by the bakery this Friday OR Boerne Epicure on Saturday to grab your pie!

When: Bakery Hours: Monday - Friday from 1:00pm - 5:00pm

Where: Bakery location (129 Industrial Drive) or Boerne Epicure (210 South Main Street)

3. Enjoy an evening of Irish dance performance

We know you’ve probably been counting down the days all year...but here’s a friendly reminder that St Patrick’s Day is next week! Even though Boerne retains a very German heritage, the town still manages to do this Irish holiday right every year. For 2016, the Boerne Civic Center is hosting the Inishfree School of Irish Dancing for a special performance on Friday evening! This free event will feature performers from San Antonio’s premiere Irish Dancing School as they perform traditional dances. If you’ve ever seen Irish dancing before, you know this is more than a routine performance. Irish dance is fast-paced and full of life!

Watching the Inishfree dancers is sure to be a treat...this school has produced dancers who have placed at the regional, national and world level. However, the school’s main objective is to create a love of Irish dance. You can see this true passion in their performances. The joy is contagious! Head to the Civic Center this Friday to see and hear for yourself.

When: Friday at 6:00 pm

Where: Boerne Civic Center: 820 Adler Rd

4. Open Pro Rodeo Series with Jeremy Steding

We know many of you have been asking yourselves all year: “Is it rodeo season yet?” Well, the answer is finally, “Yes!” Celebrate the advent of this very Texan time of year with the Tejas Rodeo Open Pro Rodeo Series, which takes place every Saturday evening. Festivities include bull riding, tie down calf roping, team roping, barrel racing, breakaway roping, and calf scramble and “mutton bustin” for kids! As you can see, this rodeo is Texas culture on full blast. Attendees can also enjoy dancing, food, and live music by Jeremy Steding.

Jeremy Steding, who hails just down the road from Austin, specializes in “vintage-inspired Texas music.” Influenced by The Byrds, John Prine, and Buddy Holly, Steding’s tunes draw out a heavy Texas nostalgia along with steady musical prowess. Tickets are available for purchase at the gate!
