People love Boerne for the small town atmosphere, Hill Country views, and quaint downtown scenery. However, Boerne also has far more to offer visitors and residents alike than many realize! Boerne is known for rich heritage, great location, and an active community, all of which are showcased by local businesses. No need to research: five of the best fun events to attend and businesses to visit in Boerne this week are described below. Hopefully, this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country weekend a little easier!

Ditch the typical weekend movie night and watch a classic flick under the stars instead! The City of Boerne is hosting their final Movie in the Park event this Friday evening. You and your family can spread out under the Texas sunset and enjoy a free showing of the 1980’s classic sci-fi movie “Back to the Future”! The movie starts at dark, but you can head to City Park at 6:30 for pre-movie events: pick out a prime spot, grab a movie snack, and enjoy free entertainment. This week will feature free swimming at the pool from 6:30pm-8:30pm!
“Back to the Future” stars Michael J Fox as a small-town teen Marty McFly, who finds himself thrown back into the 1950’s by a kooky scientist’s DeLorean time machine. When Marty encounters his unsuspecting parents, hilarious chaos ensues!
When: Friday, Pre-movie activities begin at 6:30pm
Where: City Park, 106 City Park Rd

Ingredients for the perfect summer evening include: dancing under an umbrella of live oaks, a sky full of stars, and some sway-worthy music. Add them all together and you’ve got the Cibolo Nature Center’s outdoor concert series “Moondance At the Cibolo”. More than just a romantic-sounding name, this summer series has become a local favorite featuring music, dancing, and community togetherness. This weekend’s featured artist is La Tampiquena, a “foot stompin' Tex-Mex band” that hails out of south Austin. This weekend’s concert will be your chance to seriously show off your moves with everything from Texas two-step to honky-tonk to 70’s funk! Firehouse Fare food truck and Paciugo Italian Gelato will also be present to offer up good eats and drinks. Proceeds from the concert will assist in nature education and outreach programs at Cibolo Nature Center & Farm. You can purchase your tickets here!
When: Saturday, 7:30-10:30pm
Where: Cibolo Nature Center, 140 City Park Road

If you’re feeling nostalgic for a simpler time and tastier ice cream, put Hot Rod Night on your weekend calendar. Famous for its charming 1950’s feel and old-time memorabilia, Soda Pops Patio Grill & Bar hosts their famous “Hot Rod Nights” as long as the weather allows! Soda Pops’ classic feel is reminiscent of a retro 50’s diner...combined with an almost cartoonish ice cream parlor and novelty soda shop. During Hot Rod Nights, the town gathers together at Soda Pops to listen to special musical guests and enjoy juicy burgers, cold beer, and handspun shakes. This Saturday, you can listen to The Blast Band, a classic rock group passionate about the oldies.
When: Saturday, 6:30PM
Where: Soda Pops, 103 N. Main

Boerne-ites are all about supporting local businesses and fostering community...and this week’s Herff Community Dinner is the perfect opportunity to do just that! Hosted by Valeria Farm-to-Table Restaurant, this dinner will feature three courses of locally sourced goodness, including zucchini involtini with herbed cheese, sous vide cooked cabrito with rosemary carrots, and lemon ricotta cheesecake with blueberries. Proceeds from this delicious meal will go toward the Cibolo Nature Center, which aims to ensure Boerne’s natural treasures are protected and thriving. Valeria, an exceptional farm to table restaurant, has received a good deal of area media and attention for its creative modern dishes, classic favorites, and locally sourced ingredients...and if you can’t make it to the dinner, don’t forget to hit up the Farmer’s Market at the Cibolo for all your Summer produce needs!

Drink Texas Biergarten claims to be the “Live Music Capital of Boerne”...and with this weekend’s lineup, we’re inclined to agree! From Friday to Sunday, a host of great bands and performers will grace the backyard stage for your entertainment. On Friday at 8:00pm, the locally renowned Chris Cruz will showcase his south Texas roots with “eloquent guitar riffs and crystal vocals” (and again on Sunday at 2:00pm). On Saturday, at 3:00pm, John Eustrom will feature traditional and Texas country tunes, followed by Jake Castillo at 8:00pm. As San Antonio’s only “6 Piece Trio”, the Jake Castillo Trio boasts a singer/songwriter sound with original songs driven by heartfelt experience and incredible talent. Enjoy a craft beer or glass of wine while you enjoy the live tunes!
