Five Things to Do in Boerne This Weekend (Jan. 8 -10)

People love Boerne for the small town atmosphere, Hill Country views, and quaint downtown. However, Boerne also has far more to offer visitors and residents alike than many realize! Boerne is known for rich heritage, great location, and an active community, all of which are showcased by local businesses. No need to research, five of the best fun events to attend and businesses to visit in Boerne this week are described below. Hopefully this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country weekend a little easier!

1. Peruse Vendors at Market Days

Since Boerne’s early beginnings in 1850, the center point of trade has always been Main Plaza. Though wagons no longer pull up to purchase their wares, many people come to the plaza on the second weekend of every month to spend the day browsing the wondrous outdoor market that blends the traditions of the Texas Hill Country with the creations of today’s culture. It is on these days that Main Plaza becomes home to hundreds of festive booths, displaying everything from collectibles and vintage pieces of the past to today’s novelties, that are certain to captivate those who meander past. Popular with both residents and visitors, Market Days have become synonymous with excellent shopping supplied by artists, craftsmen, and vendors sharing their creative flairs and wares alongside the background music of some of Texas' best local musicians.

5. PAWS For Reading at the Patrick Heath Public Library

Research shows that young readers feel more confident in their reading skills when reading to a dog. Reading to dogs has also been shown to boost reading skills in children as well as help with emotional and social skills. Not only this, studies have shown that children’s opinions of reading changed from feeling uncomfortable and self-conscience before engaging in a program in which they read to a dog to proclaiming that reading was much more enjoyable for them after. Because of these positive outcomes, programs in both school and public library settings are gaining in popularity because of the many benefits. The Patrick Heath Public Library has recognized this and is inviting children to come read with Riley, a trained and certified therapy dog who “loves hearing stories read to her by boys and girls.” Bring your kiddos to the library to meet the adorable Riley, practice their reading, and have fun!

When: Saturday, 10:30 a.m.

Where: Patrick Heath Public Library, Monday-Sunday 10:00am-5:00pm
