5 Things To Do in Boerne This Weekend (Jan 29-31)

People love Boerne for the small town atmosphere, Hill Country views, and quaint downtown. However, Boerne also has far more to offer visitors and residents alike than many realize! Boerne is known for rich heritage, great location, and an active community, all of which are showcased by local businesses. No need to research, five of the best fun events to attend and businesses to visit in Boerne this week are described below. Hopefully this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country weekend a little easier!

1. Indulge your inner detective at Blue Sage Hall in Kerrville

Do you love mystery novels? Does your burgeoning inner detective need a more creative outlet? If you love the thrill of mystery but your sleuthing skills are usually limited to, “Who ate the last girl scout cookie?”, take note of this event! The Blue Sage Hall in Kerrville is hosting a Murder Mystery Dinner on Saturday evening, featuring a delicious meal and interactive entertainment. Throw on a costume and head to this charming venue usually booked up for wedding receptions. The dinner will benefit the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA), which assists children and young adults in need of life-saving medical transplants. By providing fundraising assistance and family support to those in need of transplants, COTA is able to walk with families through an otherwise expensive and lonely journey. In short: this unique, entertaining evening will benefit a phenomenal cause.

When: Saturday, 6– 9:00 pm

Where: The Blue Sage Hall, 3044 Junction Hwy, Ingram Tx

2. Enjoy a romantic comedy...in real time

Do you love a good story? For many, Friday nights are the “sigh of relief” at the end of the week...it’s time to forget about the troubles of the work week and wind down for the weekend. For many, this means a trip to the movie theater or a night on the couch with Netflix. Getting lost in a storyline is an incredible way to relax! This weekend, spice up the usual movie-and-popcorn routine. Instead of watching “You’ve Got Mail” for the thirtieth time, get your “rom com” fix at Playhouse 2000, a local theater arts group in the Hill Country area. This weekend, grab tickets to “Getting Sarah Married”, a “blind date gone wrong” kind of comedy about Sarah Hastings...a “modern woman” whose aunt thinks she needs a husband ASAP.

When: Friday, 7:30 -9:30pm

Where: Playhouse 2000, 910 Main St, Kerrville, TX

3. Watch military history come to life

On the last Saturday of every month, volunteer hobbyists come together to put on an explosive show! Through true-to-life model tanks, equipment, landscape, and soldiers, “Weekend Wargames” simulate World War II battles and campaigns. This weekend, “Operation Barbarossa” will commence as German tanks face off against an entrenched Russia. If you’re interested in model tanks, military history, or simply want to interact with these talented hobbyists, head to the Patrick Heath Public Library this Saturday.

When: Saturday, 11am-4pm

Where: Patrick Heath Public Library (451 North Main)

4. Dust off your cowboy boots and tear up the dance floor

If you don’t usually associate Sunday nights with country dancing, you may want to start changing your mind. This Sunday evening, John T. Floore Country Store will host “Family Night & Free Dance” featuring Kathy Bauer. Grab your clan and head out to this classic Texan venue, which has hosted legendary performers for over 60 years. More than just a Honky Tonk stage, John T. Floore’s stage has been graced by Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, B.B. King, Little Richard, so many more. What better place to show off your own legendary performance! And this Texas dance hall isn’t only famous for its musical history...Floore’s “Texas Cafe” is also hailed as an incredible taste of Texas cuisine. At Family Night, you and your crew can enjoy an evening that’s low in cost and high in entertainment. If you’re not convinced or you’ve never been to John T. Floore Country Store, get this: Texas Monthly has listed John T. Floore Country Store as one of the “50 Things Every Texan Should Do.”

When: Sun, January 31, 2016 at 6:00 pm

Where: 4492 Old Bandera Rd, Helotes, TX

5. Enjoy the scenic route on a trail ride

The weather in Boerne this weekend is expected to be incredible...sunny skies and warm temperatures will have you thinking it’s mid-May rather than late-January. We couldn’t be happier! If you want to really take advantage of this Indian Summer of sorts, saddle up at Stricker Trail Rides! Boerne is located smack dab in the middle of the gorgeous Texas Hill Country, meaning the views are worth an extra look. Led by knowledgeable cowboy guides, Stricker Trail Rides will keep your eyes full of scenery and your ears full of stories. No matter your previous experience with horseback riding, Stricker has a horse that will make you feel comfortable and safe. This unique experience is essential to anyone living in the Texas Hill Country. Both individual and group rides are available through Saturdays.
